POSITION SUMMARY: Do you have a passion for Organization Learning and Development? Are you creative, collaborative, and passionate about what you do? The Instructional Designer is a key component of our team and is charged with designing, developing, and implementing diverse learning content that supports the mission of Boys Town. This position coordinates with Youth Care Services, Leadership, IT, Compliance, Human Resources, and other departments to innovate and collaborate to enhance the training experience across the entire organization. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & DUTIES:
  • Designs and develops curriculum for training.
    • Collaborates with cross-functional teams, training staff, internal customers, other departments, and subject matter experts to gather complex content and simplify into results-oriented training, while meeting project deadlines.
    • Applies instructional design standards utilizing ADDIE/SAM model, including needs analysis, review of research, developing learning objectives and strategies, defining content, selecting appropriate learning approach and activities, sequencing content and activities, storyboarding, testing, surveying and overall course design to quickly deploy coursework.
    • Develops engaging instructional material and curriculum, coordinates, writes, and edits educational content, and incorporates technology into learning solutions. Develops and maintains up-to-date training for multiple programs and positions that supports the Boys Town Model and complies with Boys Town policies and procedures and regulatory requirements such as COA and state licensing requirements.
    • Manages instructor-led, virtual, and online course development projects as well as maintenance of existing coursework. Makes editorial and structural decisions on content of Boys Town teaching model training.
    • Designs utilizing video, audio, and multimedia tools to support learning; creates and edits media and graphic elements in development of content.
    • Develops and maintains content on the Learning Management System.
    • Builds an enriched multimedia training environment by utilizing online applications to bring together the various training modules and enhances the online training environment using a variety of web technologies to further communication and improve social learning.
    • Researches and applies trends and best practices in learning technology and instructional design for continuous improvement of the Boys Town University learning model.
    • Establishes, analyzes, and reports on metrics for implemented curricula, current developments in learning theory, instructional strategies, classroom management, and curriculum development.
    • Serves as the primary technical coordinator for the Youth Care Training department to ensure equipment and technologies are available and working properly. Provides technical assistance, cross-training and consultation for Smart Boards, WebEx, Jabber, web-based solutions, video conferencing, presentation software, and all other learning technologies.
    • Travels to Boys Town affiliate and/or contracted sites to provide technical support for training.
  • Serves as a role model in carrying out the Father Flanagans Boys Home mission.
    • Directs all activities towards the fulfillment of the Boys Town mission
    • Directs all actions to reflect the values and principles of Boys Town
    • Establishes and maintains an environment that encourages teamwork, collaboration, and ethical behavior
    • Maintains regular, reliable and predictable attendance
    • Supports other members of the management team and their work

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
  • Knowledge of Learning Management System environments (i.e. Cornerstone OnDemand).
  • Knowledge of IT basics to support LMS fundamentals/troubleshooting such as API's, data feeds, data mapping, Active Directory, SSO.
  • Ability to learn and apply new technologies and products quickly in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to write scripts, effective copy, and instructional text.
  • Skills in project management/keeping learning projects on task and meet deadlines.
  • Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong commitment to customer satisfaction and teamwork.
  • Knowledge and ability to use design and graphics software (such as Adobe Premiere, Flash, Sound booth, Photoshop, Illustrator, Captivate, Camtasia) to create layouts and design.
  • Knowledge of Learning Management System environments (i.e., Cornerstone OnDemand).
  • Ability to utilize web technologies such as RSS feeds, blogs, wiki's, discussion threads, and podcasts to further communication and social learning.
  • Skills in media production (video scripting and production, video editing, on-line learning).
  • Ability to interpret the customers complex business needs.
  • Ability to define appropriate learning technology, including multi-media, classroom, web-based, CBT, distance learning self-study classroom, self-study for results focused learning.
  • Ability to utilize web technologies such as RSS feeds, blogs, wiki's, discussion threads, and podcasts to further communication and social learning.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
  • Bachelors degree in Communications, Instructional Design, Educational Technology, Computer Science, or equivalent.
  • 3-5 years of experience including instructional design, multimedia development and project management.
  • 2 to 4 years of experience with design and editing applications such as Captivate, Camtasia, Adobe Suite, Articulate or similar.
  • 2 to 4 years of experience working in a Learning Management System (LMS), preferably Cornerstone OnDemand.
  • 1 to 3 years multimedia experience designing audio, video, graphic/media and or animation with an ability to edit graphics, audio assets, video to maximize learning impact.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND EQUIPMENT USAGE: Position requires little to moderate physical activity. Mostly sedentary work exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally or a negligible amount of force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects. Work involves sitting most of the time but may involve walking or standing for brief periods of time. No significant stooping is usually required.
