Seattle Childrens is expanding our Periop areas! In 2022, we will open 8 new Operating Rooms and 2 new Cardiac Catheter Labs, giving the organization a total of 28 surgical and procedural spaces across a total of 4 perioperative suites.

Included in the expansion will be 2 new Post-Anesthesia Care Units, adding 12 additional Recovery Room Bays, which feature an open concept layout and innovative design features ensuring both patient privacy and safety.

Designed in collaboration with Doctors and Nurses, these new perioperative suites will provide unparalleled levels of patient and staff safety and comfort.

PACU is a mix of critical care (Perianesthesia) and acute care (Ambulant surgical) nursing. This area is fast paced and high volume, with around half of all surgeries and procedures undertaken admitted and discharged from within the service on the same day.

In accordance with House Bill 1155 (effective January 1, 2020), the following areas have clinical unpredictable needs and as a result will have a call obligation within their nursing positions: Apheresis, Cardiac Cath Lab, Dialysis, ECMO, Home Care Services, Imaging Services (including GI Procedures), Perioperative Services, and Transplant Coordinators.

LI-GH1 Required:
  • Active Washington State RN license.
  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing
  • Current BLS (American Heart Association Health Care Provider, American Safety and Health Institution Professional Level or American AED/CPR Association - Professional Rescuer) and ability to perform CPR are required.
  • Pediatric Advance Life Support (PALS) is mandatory within 3 months of hire and must be maintained as current thereafter.
Preferred:
  • 2 years in pediatric PACU/perianesthesia experience in a tertiary setting
  • Ambulant surgical experience
  • Specialty certification - CPAN
  • Combination of Acute and Critical Care experience desirable
