Currently, we re hiring a Teacher Assistant to work at a school in Charleston, South Carolina. As a Special Education Teacher Assistant with SHC, you'll be supported by our Schools Center of Excellence, a dedicated team of recruiters and employment professionals that understand schools and your unique needs as a Teacher Assistant.

The Special Education Teacher Assistant will assist the classroom teacher in providing a well-organized, smoothly functioning classroom environment in which students may take full advantage of the instructional program and available resources.

- $16-$25 an hour
- Participate in the instructional program under the direction of a certified teacher
- Work with groups of children based on grade level
- Work with children in learning centers and assist in the preparation and care of learning materials
- Assist in preparing classroom displays and bulletin boards
- Communicates relevant information regarding student s behavior with parents
- Assist students with feeding, diapering, or toileting and charts time
- Care for classroom equipment and materials and may operate audio-visual equipment
- Assist with lunch, snack, and clean-up routine and assist children with clothing management based on grade level
- Participate in In-service training programs as required
- Assist certified teacher with classroom activities as directed
- Prepare training aids for the classroom as required
- Work with children with special needs

The ideal candidate will have the ability to sit for extended periods of time and the ability to lift 10 pounds frequently and up to 50 occasionally. The teacher assistant must be able to operate basic office equipment such as a computer, fax machine, and shredder. Must be able to handle a fast-paced, high-volume environment and have the ability to me

Requirements:

- Minimum of 60 hours of college credit or qualified passing score on the ParaPRO Assessment Test
- Proficient in the use of standard computer applications
- Must have excellent written and oral communication skills
- The ability to work collaboratively with existing staff
- Covid vaccine is not required
Preferred Qualifications:
- Associates, Bachelor s or Master s Degree
- 2-3 years of experience working with children
- Crisis Prevention and Intervention Training
